Coastal Animals at A Place at the Beach
 
The beach bean, Canavalia rosea, thrives in the sandy soil. Asiatic Dayflower, Spiderwort Family, an invasive weed. Clusters of grey-blue, waxy berries on female Southern Bayberry (Waxmyrtle), Myrica cerifera, a native plant. The beach path ends where turf meets surf at high tide.
The perennial Largeleaf (or Beach, or Water) Pennywort, Hydrocotyle bonariensis, a prostrate herbaceous plant. Pennywort has creeping lateral stems and quite circular basal leaves that are peltate, with irregular shallow lobes. Blooms grace pennywort early spring into early fall, Texas to Florida and north to Virginia, mostly along the coast. Small white pennywort flowers form in branching clusters, typical of members in its parsley family (Umbelliferae).

She brought us a blue, one of four Charles caught and gave us. He also gave us four dozen little mullet, giving us delicious dining daily. Daddy cleaned all but one which Ruth killed, cleaned, cooked, and served. Sunrise and sea oats, 7:23 a.m. on September 28, 2007.
